The anticipated activities of the project include:

• a review of applicable Slovenian and European regulations on road safety and methodologies for monitoring and managing the transportation of hazardous substances on the main road network, including definitions of risk scenarios when transporting hazardous substances on the main road network;
• a review and assessment of currently obtained and possible input data, which are the basis for defining critical infrastructure for the transportation of hazardous substances on the main road network (main road network, critical hotspots relating to technical characteristics and congestion with other infrastructure, traffic flows, safety risks when transporting hazardous substances, locations of producers and final consumers, current state of monitoring and managing traffic flows of transporting hazardous substances on the main road network, environmental parameters, etc.);
• the production of a comprehensive GIS with fully evaluated input data in an organised structure;
• the development of a system of the safest and alternative routes for transporting hazardous substances on the main road network with the application of GIS;
• the development of a methodology for monitoring and managing the transportation of hazardous substances on the main road network in real time and its implementation on the road network;
• test example of the application of the GIS system on the main road network;
• the dissemination of results.
